- Prepare your slow cooker; coat the bottom with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
- Slice the large yellow onion into thick wedges and place them evenly at the bottom of the slow cooker.
- Lay the country style ribs on top of the onion in a single layer.
- In a mixing bowl, combine chili powder, black pepper, kosher salt, cumin, dried oregano, and garlic powder. Sprinkle over the ribs.
- Whisk together 1 cup of barbecue sauce with the optional liquid smoke and pour over the seasoned ribs.
- Cover and cook the ribs on LOW for 7 to 8 hours or on HIGH for 4 to 5 hours.
- Preheat the broiler, transfer ribs to a foil-lined baking sheet, discard cooking liquid, and baste with remaining barbecue sauce. Broil for about 5 minutes.
- Let the ribs rest before serving. Pair them with your favorite comfort food sides.
