Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Prepare your slow cooker; coat the bottom with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Slice the large yellow onion into thick wedges and place them evenly at the bottom of the slow cooker.
  3. Lay the country style ribs on top of the onion in a single layer.
  4. In a mixing bowl, combine chili powder, black pepper, kosher salt, cumin, dried oregano, and garlic powder. Sprinkle over the ribs.
  5. Whisk together 1 cup of barbecue sauce with the optional liquid smoke and pour over the seasoned ribs.
  6. Cover and cook the ribs on LOW for 7 to 8 hours or on HIGH for 4 to 5 hours.
  7. Preheat the broiler, transfer ribs to a foil-lined baking sheet, discard cooking liquid, and baste with remaining barbecue sauce. Broil for about 5 minutes.
