Method

Step-by-Step Instructions for Korean Braised Tofu
  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together ¼ cup of soy sauce, 2 tablespoons of honey (or maple syrup), 1 tablespoon of gochugaru, ½ cup of water, 2 cloves of minced garlic, and 1 sliced green onion until well combined.
  2. Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Carefully add the firm tofu slices and pan-fry for about 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy.
  3. Reduce the heat to medium-low, and pour the prepared sauce over the pan-fried tofu. Allow the tofu to braise for about 5-7 minutes, occasionally spooning the sauce over the tofu.
  4. Drizzle 1 teaspoon of toasted sesame oil over the top and gently flip the tofu to coat it evenly before removing from heat.
  5. Transfer the Korean braised tofu onto a serving plate and garnish with sesame seeds. Serve hot alongside steamed rice.
