Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Start by peeling and chopping the sweet potatoes into even-sized cubes, about 1 to 2 inches thick. Place the chopped sweet potatoes in a large pot.
  2. Fill the pot with enough water to cover the sweet potatoes and add a generous pinch of salt. Bring the water to a boil over medium-high heat and cook for about 20–25 minutes until tender.
  3. Carefully drain the sweet potatoes in a colander and let them steam for a couple of minutes with the lid slightly ajar.
  4. Using a potato ricer or a hand masher, mash the sweet potatoes until smooth, about 2–3 minutes.
  5. In a small saucepan, gently heat the half-and-half and butter until the butter melts. Gradually pour this creamy blend into the mashed sweet potatoes while stirring.
  6. Taste the mixture and season generously with salt, black pepper, and cinnamon as desired. Mix well.
