  • 1 block firm tofu freeze overnight for improved texture
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch for crispy coating
For the Sauce
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce or tamari for gluten-free
  • 1/2 cup orange juice freshly squeezed
  • 2 tablespoons sugar or maple syrup for natural sweetness
For Seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder adjust to taste
  • 1 teaspoon salt to taste

Method
 

Preparation Steps
  1. Freeze a block of firm tofu overnight, then thaw it and press to remove moisture. Cut into 1-inch cubes.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine cornstarch, garlic powder, and salt. Toss the tofu cubes in the mixture until fully coated.
  3. Heat oil in a skillet and fry the tofu until golden brown, about 5-7 minutes, or bake at 400°F (200°C) for 25 minutes.
  4. In a small saucepan, heat orange juice, soy sauce, and sugar/maple syrup over medium heat until simmering for 5-7 minutes.
  5. Add the crispy tofu to the saucepan and toss to coat in the sauce, then serve immediately.
